A can’t-miss step of the vacation on Gargano is the Umbra forest, a magic place with his abundant vegetation to few footsteps from the sea.
The natural reserve Foresta Umbra is a natural area within the national park of Gargano. It extends him in the estern central zone of the Gargano, to around 800 meters altitude. The name “Umbra”, derives from the latin and it means dark, sheltered as it looks.
The territory of the natural reserve occupies an area of 400 hectares and extends in the municipalities of: Vico del Gargano, Monte Sant’ Angelo Vieste, Carpino, Peschici.

How to get there: The natural reserve is reachable from Vico del Gargano crossing the inhabited center and from ss89, crossroad SP52bis Peschici-Vieste.
Services for the visitors: Are in operation the visitors center of the natural reserves of the Gargano (diorama del Gargano, notice-boards, xiloeca, lithic findigns, recostruction of a station of carbonari, educational arboretum), the information office, pedestrian paths, rest areas and pic-nic areas.
