Trabucchi are a typical presence of Peschici, it counts seven of them. The olny “Trabucchisti” still alive and able to build a “Trabuccho” live in Peschici and are part of the familys Ottaviano and Fasanella.
Trabucchi have a very complex architecture, made of twisted wood poles whit wires and pulleys. They are a highly effective tool, especially on our coastline, or the fishing of the passing fishes. The method is very simple and it consists of dipping in the sea a big net sustained by spar, on these is positioned a spotter that from the top can see the benches of fish and to his signal the persons present on the “Trabucco” start to turn a wheel that catch the fishes in the net.
This kind of fishing exploit the migration of the fishes from noth to south. Today a lot of “Trabucchi” have become rastaurants, where one can taste the fish freshly caught.
